Mutable Surroundings by Isabel Fredeus

Mutable Surroundings is the first solo exhibition of Isabel Fredeus, a visual artist based in Antwerp (BE). She obtained her Master in Fine Arts (2015) at Sint Lucas in Antwerp. Fredeus works with installation, sculpture, video, drawing and interventions. She is particularly interested in materials that are elastic, modular and flexible. Her main themes are natural processes, senses, physical laws and the herewith generated symbolism. She tries to work in a way that new discoveries can unfold at any time, old events can repeat themselves and where nothing is definitively fixed.

The exhibition shows that Fredeus strategically deals with the symbolism of grids, circles and other geometric relations. She tries to make the exhibition one big board game where the different artworks each proclaim their own power relationship to space.
